New Normality: Industrial Property

As of March 2020, the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (“IMPI”) had remained in suspension as well as the Intellectual Property Board of Appeal (“SEPI” in Spanish) which is the reviewing authority of IMPI’s final determinations, where no legal terms were running due to the SARS-CoV2 virus.

With the corresponding sanitary measures and in a gradual and orderly manner, as of July 13th, 2020, legal terms began to be valid before IMPI, and all the activities that have been resumed regularly.

As for SEPI, which is part of the Federal Court of Administrative Justice, addressed in Mexico City, after taking the corresponding sanitary measures, as of August 3rd, 2020, legal terms began to be effective, withdrawing the suspension of activities.

With regards to the National Institute of Copyright, it is the only remaining authority in the intellectual property system in Mexico that still in the suspension of activities until the Ministry of Culture and health authorities determine that there is no epidemiological risk.
